Israel & Overseas

The Jewish Federation of Detroit’s Israel & Overseas (I&O) Department is about more than geography—it’s about people, purpose, and shared Jewish identity. At its heart, I&O creates deep and lasting connections between Detroiters, Israelis, and Jewish communities around the world through meaningful relationships and transformative programs.

Like Federation’s other Community Development and engagement departments, I&O also builds strong relationships right here at home. Through immersive travel, cultural exchanges, and opportunities to respond to global needs, I&O engages community members in ways that spark leadership, inspire volunteerism, and grow philanthropic commitment.

Federation’s partnership with the Central Galilee region of Israel, along with support for vulnerable Jewish communities in Ukraine, Ethiopia, Latin America, and beyond, reflects our commitment to collective responsibility and Jewish peoplehood. We don’t just send aid—we build bridges, foster understanding, and strengthen the bonds of a global Jewish family.

When Jewish communities are in crisis—whether due to conflict, antisemitism, poverty, or displacement—we respond with urgency. Federation’s I&O department is often on the front lines, providing emergency relief, long-term recovery, and a steady source of strength and solidarity.

Through every initiative, the Israel & Overseas Department reinforces a central truth: no matter where we live, we are one Jewish family.
